RANGI LEAVES RUSSELL.
STRONG FAVOURABLE BREEZE. WELCOME BY RESIDENTS. KEEN INTEREST IN RACE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] RUSSELL, Friday. The Auckland yacht Rangi sailed for Auckland at 1.30 p.m. to-day in continuation of her return trip from Sydney. There was a strong, favourable breeze and the vessel passed Cape Brett at 4.15 p.m. In the morning thero was a large and representative gathering at tho public hall, convened by Mr. Bissett, chairman of tho Russell Town Board, to welcome the crew and owner of the Rangi. Mr. Biss3tt, in a happy speech, extended a hearty welcome and Russell's congratulations to Mr. W. A. E. Leonard, of Remuera, owner, Lieutenant-Com-mander W. C. Julet', the navigator, and the crew of the yacht. He deplored the. fact that there was a tendency for speedboats to supersede the sport of yachting and trusted that the Tasman yacht race would revive interest in yachting. Mr. J. Armitage, deputy-chairman, endorsed the chairman's remarks and emphasised the keen interest locally in the Itangi's progress. Mr. Leonard gave all the credit to Lieutenant-Commander Juler. Lieutenant-Commander Juler said lie had. had an easy task. The Rangi was a good ship and navigation was a pleasure. Ho was grateful for the opportunity to sail her and had a good crew. Hearty cheers were given for Mr. Leonard and the crew.
