DEAD FATHER'S POST.
DAUGHTER AS SUCCESSOR A father's high 1 esteem for his daughter's ability, to which he testified in his will, lias resulted in her appointment as chairman of aii old-established firm in the City of London. Mrs. Nellie Phillida Rushby, the new chairman of Messrs. Jerrards, Ltd., trimming warehousemen, is the daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Webber Jerrard. Mr. Jerrard, who left £11,635, was Mrs. Rushby's predecessor as chairman of the firm, and in his will he expressed a desire that his daughter should succeed him, because " I have great/ confidence) in her judgment, and feel sure that itwould be in the best interests of the company." His wish was fulfilled a fortnight ago when Mrs. Rushby was "elected chairman at a board meeting of the company. " Wo felt bound to honour the late Mr. Jerrard," said a member of the firm. " Sho is a woman with a first-class business brain, and her father's faith in her abilities is completely justified." Mrs. Rushby is 50 years of age. _ She has not previously worked in the business. Her father was aged 87 when he died.
