THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. QUIET TRADING. A quiet tone was recorded on tlie Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday and the total volume of business was below normal for n Friday. A sale of tax-free bonds was reported from late the previous afternoon, at the current price. The first sale of the 1927-41, 5£ per cent, issue of Inscribed Stock since the last week in March was put through at £97, a rise of £2 10s over the period. The banking group was quiet, with sellers predominating. A parcel of Now Zealand D preference shares was dealt with at 26s 6d, the current price. The market for insurance shares showed practically no movement. A sale of South British was reported from late the previous afternoon at 525, which is 6d above the market of the day before. Ixmn and agency and coal shares were again practically neglected. A sale of Auckland Gas contributing shares was made at the current rate of 17s. Buyers of P. and 0. deferred stock moved up 4s 6d to 24s 6d during the day, sellers holding steady at 275. Sellers of New Zealand Breweries dropped Is to 35s 6d. Tho market for British Tobaccos weakened during the day, buyers offering 28s at the close, compared with 28s 9d the previous day. Sellers of Colonial Sugars at £35 10s were unsupported. Quotations for Wilsons Cements showed practically no change following the publication of tho balance-sheet. In mining three sales of Waihis were recorded at 14s Bd, which is Id below the market of tho previous day. Waihi Junctions touched the highest levels in recent years, a salo taking place at 2s 7d.
