VICTORIAN GOVERNOR.
DEFERRING APPOINTMENT.
REQUEST BY GOVERNMENT. MELBOURNE, May 10. The Premier of Victoria, Mr. E. J. Hogan, announces that the State Ministry has asked the Imperial authorities to defer the appointment of a successor to the retiring Governor, Lord Somers. The financial position was the main reason.
When the Governor leaves, the Chief Justice, Sir William Irvine, who is Lieutenant-Governor, will act in his place.
