DESERTION FROM SHIP.

FORFEITURE OF WAGES.

A ship's fireman, Thomas Rennie, pleaded guilty in the Police Court on Saturday to a charge of desertion at Wellington from the, ship Tasmania. Ho said he did not like his job. Tt was stated that accused had been signed on in New Zealand and under the law was not subject to imprisonment. Accused was convicted and ail order was made forfeiting a fortnight's pay which was due to him. " He is lucky," commented Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., when informed that accused would not, he unemployed, as ho could sign on another ship.
