SALMON FISHING SPOILED.

SOME SELFISH ANGLERS. " It. is to bp regretted that among those participating in the endeavours to ctitcli ihe Rakaia salmon there have been one or more regrettable incidents," states the annual report, of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. "Fishermen ate as u rule looked upon as sportsmen; but this year it is quite evident that some of those who have visited the mouth of the Rakaia have not proved ihemsqlves to be such; but far from it." In the lower reaches, the number of salmon caught was very small, probably because the fish were scared by " over 70 people heaving leads and spoons at them from daylight until dark."
