A NEGLIGENT MOTORIST.
DEATH OF GIRL CAUSED. GUILTY AT THE SECOND TRIAL. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Friday. While driving a motor-car on the main road near Geraldine on Easter Saturday, David Bell, a farmer, collided with a cyclist, Vera Goodevo, aged 16, who
died from her injuries. , Bell was tried at the Supreme Court at Timaru beforo Mr. Justice Adams on a charge of negligent driving, causing the death of the girl. On that occasion, the jury failed to agree. Bell was tried again at Christchurch to-day. Evidence was given that Bell was travelling 30 miles an hour on his wrong side of the road, and the girl was riding on her correct side, but without a light. One witness stated that Bells steeling was erratic. It was also stated that Bell smelled of liquor, but was not drunk. Accused said he had only had three drinks and he was sober. The jury returned a verdict of guilty of negligent driving. Bell was remanded for sentence.
