STOCK MARKET FIRMER.
FEDERAL ELECTION EXPECTED MORE BUSINESS IN SYDNEY. SYDNEY, May 8. The Daily Telegraph says an expansion in turnover, accompanied by rising prices, was a feature of yesterday's business on the Sydney Stock Exchange. It is considered ii) financial circles that Sir Robert Gibson's speech before the Senato is likely to hasten the dissolution of Parliament, oven if the Senate passes the Bank Bill to prevent default. The Opposition is expected to do everything in its power to bring about an election. With the prospect of an early appeal to the people the sharemarket is increasingly buoyant. Commonwealth loans, bank shares, and other first-class investments are firmer. Some of the leading brokers are now advising their clients to resume their investment activities in the belief that confidence will be regained as a result of a change of Government.
