PAY FOR TUNNELLERS.
MEN AT TAWA FLAT. GOVERNMENT OFFER REJECTED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Thursday. The tunnellers on the Tawa Flat railway deviation have declined the wages offer recently made by the Government,. They were unanimous in rejecting the offer. The offer of the Government was to increase the rates of pay to enable the men to earn from 18s 6d to 21s a day, instead of 16s, as previously decided. The higher rate of 21s was for work done in advance of headings.
