THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. SLIGHTLY FIRMER TONE. 'A slightly firmer tone was recorded on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, and interest was spread over a comparatively wide range of financial and miscellaneous securities. No Eales were recorded in the gilt-edged section, in which Boilers were hard to locate, and the market was very firm. In the banking group sales of Australasias, Nationals of New Zealand and Unions were recorded at current prices. The market for Unions moved np 2s to £7 2s during the day, without drawing (sellers below £7 7s 6d. In the insurance section sellers of New Zealands weakened 3d during the day without attracting n buying quotation. South British lost Is 3d on the market of three days before to change hands at 525.

j Auckland Gas shares met a firm domand with unchanged quotations. Devonport- Steams' had a further 6ale at par, buyers coming in again at 19s.' New Zealand Breweries held the previous day's quotations. i In the miscellaneous group buyers came fn for Colonial Sugars, cx div., at £32 15s, sellers asking £34 15s. Buyers of Kempthorne-Prosscrs moved up 6d to 53i without attracting a selling quotation. Wilsons Cements strengthened on the announcement of the usual dividend, buyers offering 39s 3d at tho close, compared with 37s 6d the previous afternoon. Mining W as quietly active. Waihi Grand Junctions gained Id to soil at 2s 4d. Mount Lyells had their first Auckland sale since the middle of April at a fall of 2s on the market at that time, but 6d above the price paid in Wellington the previous day.
