Vincent last evening:— The depression in the north is now moving eastward, and the area of high barometric pressure, enclosing a fine weather system, is moving on to the Dominion from the west. Showers are indicated in northern and east coast districts, but conditions elsewhere are expected to be fine, ' y and a general improvement should follow. Southerly to south-easterly winds, moderate to strong decreasing. Rough, though moderating, seas on the east coast. Local outlook: Conditions are expected to improve, succeeded by fine, bright, though cold, weather. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 23.801n, Midnight, Wednesday .. 29.95 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 62deg.; Minimum, 53deg. > GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —A small but rather deep cyclone is passing eastwards just to the north of New. Zealand. A moderate anti-cyclone is moving on to the South Island. Indications are for southeasterly to southerly winds, still strong to gale force in places in and north of Cook Strait, elsewhere moderate to fresh.. Seas rough north of Farewell Spit, and Kaikoura, moderate thence southwards. Southerly to south-easterly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, strong in the northern portion, with rough seas, and moderate in the southern portion with > smooth to moderate seas. The weai<her will be fine in the western districts of the. South Island, elsewhere still changeable. Rain may be expected north of Auckland and between Hawke's Bay and the East Cape, with some heavy falls and scattered light showers elsewhere.
