TOURIST BUSINESS.
AUSTRALIAN EFFORTS. OFFICE IN WELLINGTON. Intending to, establish headquarters in Wellington. Mr. S. W. M. Stilling, representative of the Australian National Travel Association, arrived in Wellington by the Maunganui. Tlie sending of an Australian representative to New Zealand to undertake the work of stimulating tourist traffic to Australia, he said, was a reciprocal arrangement in which the various State Governments, the Commonwealth and New Zealand Governments were co-operating. Mr. Stilling will be remembered by many New Zealanders as the manager of Jenolan Caves, New South Wales. In Australia, said Mr. Stilling, the New Zealand Government Tourist Representative and Trades Commissioner, Mr. Schmitt, was located in Sydney and his efforts were now being fully rewarded. "Unfortunately, however, tourist traffic showed a tendency to wane, duo no doubt to the depressed conditions, so that the time was now opportune to put forward a special effort to encourage and increase tourist travel.
