DISORDERLY HOUSE.
SEQUEL TO POLICE VISIT. THREE PERSONS IMPRISONED. As a result of observations by ConBtable Christiansen and the visit of a police party to a house at 39, Walters Road, about 10.30 on Tuesday evening, ' f a Russian, Stanley Alekna, aged 45, a waterside worker, appeared in the Police Court yesterday on charges of being idle and disorderly in that he was the occupier of a house frequented by undesirables and of permitting the premises to be used as a disorderly house. Mr. Aekins entered pleas of guilty to" both charges. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said that on - Tuesday evening Sergeant Campagnolo and a party of constables visited the house with a warrant for accused's arrest. Ho detailed what the constables had seen in the various rooms. Alekna stated to the police that he had just returned homo and did not know who wero in the house. The house had been under observation for some time and complaints had been received from neighbours. • • v After counsel had stated that Alekna, who had experienced a lean time, had a wife and six other dependants, the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, imposed sentence of three months' imprisonment. A similar term was imposed on Phyllis Howard, aged 24, described as a domestic, who admitted a charge of being an incorrigible rogue. It was stated that accused, who was found in the house, had served sentences of three years in Borstal and one year's reformative detention. Another woman found in the house, Wanda Croftsky, aged 25, a Pole, whose,, occupation was given as a waitress, was sent to prison for three months on a charge of being idle and disorderly. It was stated that she had been before' the : Court previously. Fines of £5 were imposed on three men -) who admitted being on the premises. The case against a fourth was dismissed. A boy under tho age of 16, brother to two of the convicted men, was ordered to be dealt with in the Children's Court.
