EXTRACTS FROM THE HERALD. The following are extracts from the New Zealand Herald of May 6, 1881 Further census returns are as follows: Parnell Borough, 3500; Reniuera Highway District, 1999; Grafton Road District, 1430; Mount Albert, 649; Mount Roskill, 326; Whau and Point Chevalier, 624; Taniaki, 974; Epsom, including Mount Eden and part of Eden Terrace, 2142. It is reported that arrangements are being made for publishing the public ac counts in a clearer and more compre heuiiivo form than at present. The yeisr's accounts are expected to be. ready by the end of the week. The deficit lias now dwindled down to £SOOO or £6OOO and the liabilities left outstanding will bo fully £50,000 less than anticipated, while the railways pay quite 3£ per cunt, net profit. The bank returns for the quarter ending March 31 show:—Tqtal liabilities, £10,334.172; total assets, £14.028,605. The Greek army corps are being prepared to occupy the territory in Thessaly and Epirus, which is to be ceded by Turkey for the extension of the frontier. Sydney papers comment on the recurred* of fires in Auckland and remark " bud times s{jll."
