INFECTIOUS DISEASES.
RETURNS FOR APRIL. FURTHER DECREASE SHOWN. 'A further decrease in the nnmbe* of fcases of infectious diseases reported to the Health Department from the four health districts in the Auckland province it ahown in the total for April. There were 123 cases, compared with 127 in March, a decrease of four. In February ihere were 131 cases and in January the number, was 153. The return of 55 cases in the Auckland central district i 3 a decrease of 17 compared with the total in March and a decrease of 15 compared with the February figures. In the South Auckland district the retusn of 47 cases is'an increase 'of 18 compared with, March and an increase of 11 over the February total. Decreases are recorded in both the North Auckland and Thamcs-Tauranga districts. The North Auckland total of 15 is four below the figure for March, while there were six cases in the Thamcs-Taurunga district, against seven in the preceding month. As was the case in March, diphtheria was the most prevalent disease last month. There were 33 cases, compared witli 36 the month before. There were 29 cases of scarlet fever, or 10 more than in March, and eight above the February total. Cases of tuberculosis last month numbered 23, against 28 in the preceding month. ! Dr. T. J. Hughes reported 55 cases in tho Auckland central district, including: Scarlet fever, 10; diphtheria, 12 j enteric fever, 2; tuberculosis, 13; meningitifi, 1; erysipelas, 5; puerperal fever, 9; ophthalmia neonatorum, 1; bacillary dysentery, 2. In the South Auckland district Dr. J. Boyd reported 47 cases, comprising:— Scarlet fover, 18; diphtheria, 16; enteric fever, 5; tuberculosis, 2; erysipelas, 2; puerperal fever, f; eclampsia, 1; bacillary dysentery, 1; undulant fever, 1. Of the 15 cases reported by Dr. H. Chesson in tho North Auckland district there were:—Scarlet fever, 1; diphtheria, 4; enteric fover, 1; tuberculosis. 5; erysipelas, 1; puerperal fever, 2; bacillary dysentery, 1. The six cases in the Thames-fauranga district included:—Diphtheria, .1; tuberculosis, 3; puerperal lover, 1; eclampsia, 1.
