CANAL SCHEME DISCUSSED. At tlio annual meeting of the Mangero Ratepayers' Progressive Association liekl in the Mnngere Bridgo schoolroom Inst evening, -Mr. A. E. Trayes was elected president for the ensuing year. The question of tho proposed canal to connect the Manukau Harbour with the Waitemata Harbour was discussed at length and a resolution was passed unanimously approving of the findings of the Inland Waterways Commission of 1920. which advocated* the provision of a lock nt Mangero, to jmpoiul the waters of the Upper Alanukau. The support of the association to tho movement for the extension of the tramway service from Onelnlnga to Mangero was promised and a deputation was set up to net with tho Manukau County Council in approaching the Transport Board in tho matter.
