EGMONT RACING CLUB.

FIELDS FOR WEDNESDAY.

SIX IN STEEPLECHASE. " [by telegraph.—press association.] HAWERA, Friday. The following acceptances have been received for the first day of the Eginont Racing Club's Winter Meeting, to be held nest' Wednesday and Thursday:—

THE CORNWALL HANDICAP. "

WEIGHTS FOR RACE RECAST. The weights for the Cornwall Handicap, to be run on the opening day of the Auckland .Racing Club's Winter Meeting in June, have been recast owing to being framed with an Bst. minimum instead of 7st, The Bst. minimum has ruled for a number of years, but this year there is no restriction, so the handicap has. to bo based on a 7st. minimum. Sentown was awarded 9.13 in the original handicap and is now down to 9.0, so that ho has not been reduced a stone.... This is duo to the fact that the Hiilob of Racing provide that the topweight has to carry not less than 9.0. The other horses have gone up lib. (comparing the different scale of weights), including two on the minimum in tho first handicap:—British King and Grand Tea. Following is the corrected handicap:—

CORNWALL HANDICAP. Of £750; li miles.

WORK AT WANGANUI. KNOLLMERE GALLOPS WELL. [FROM our own correspondent.] WANGANUI, Thursday. Wanganui-trained horse? claiming engagements at Marton were again Bent along fast this morning, the outside of the course proper being available, with the flags not quite so far out as usual. The going was just a little dead after light rain during the night. The only workers before breakfast were Auctioneer and Kowhatu, who were given useful pace-work. Immediately after the interval a display over the big fences was given by Plain Jane, from C. Gordon's stable, who covered a couple of rounds in pleasing style. She has beeij hunted, so it was not her first experience over " country." Zareno slipped over five furlongs in a tick under 1.5, the first furlong being covered in 13 l-5s Zarene was clone to the pegs all tho way but there was nothing wrong with the time registered, considering the fact that this was only her second serious essay since cho has been back in work again. She has come to hand quickly and it would not be surprising to find her prominent for por.tion of tho journey in tho Farewell Hack Handicap at Marlon, although this will be her first appearanco with the colours up since oho finished second, beaten half-a-head by Autopay, in tho Spring Hack Handicap at the spring meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club. Serviceable pace-work was done by The Warden and Hinewai separately, both moving well. Hinewai spurted over the last bit and struck out well. Tho Warden is a hurdles candidate at Marton. A smart half-mile waß recorded by Arvada, whose time was 51s. Three Marton candidates, Ivnollmere. Takahue and Just An Idea, were associated over seven and a-quarter furlongs, and they finished in tho order named, with Knoll, mero well in front and the other two not seriously pushed. Knollmere was in the lead from the start and recorded 1.35 1-5, which works out at i.32 for seven furlongs. For the full distance Takahue and Just an Idea, who were practically on terms at the poet, took three seconds longer than linollmere. That, however, should not loso either of them any* friends for Marton. for Knollmere, although he had the worst of the weights, had no'shoes on for his gallop. RACING FIXTURES. 2—Whangarei Hoeing Club. May 2—Nelson Jockey Club. May 2—Marton Jockey Club. May 2—Amberley Racing Club. May 6. 7—Egmont Racing Club. May 9—Franklin Racing Club.
