DEATH OF MISS BEAVAN.
LIFE DEVOTED TO CHILDREN.
Miss Margaret Beavan, Lord Mayor of Liverpool, died recently. She had been ill since last year and had recently been treated for influenza and complications. She was 54. Miss Beavan was Lord Mayor of Liverpool in 1927*28, and she carried out the duties of both Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress. During her term of office she never had a week-end free. On the only day jshe took a holiday she spent bed recuperating. ft was found by Miss Beavan that giving a smile of welcome to everyone with whom she shook hands at the numerous town hall receptions affected the muscles of her face. To get relief she had to massage her cheeks. Miss Beatan devoted the greater part of her life to the welfare and cara of children, and 25 years ago founded the Liverpool Child Welfare Association in a small back room in the city. She put so much devotion into the work that she became known as " The little mother of Liverpool."
