HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST

TEMPORARILY FINE, THEN RAIN

Tho following weather forecast for 48 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. IT. M. Vincent last evening:— The tropical depression has now passed eastward, but another disturbance of cyclonic character is approaching from the west. Expect fair to fine weather temporarily, then clouding over again, and further rain following in most districts, heavy in North Auckland and east coast districts. Thunder is probable in the North. Easterly to south-easterly winds, moderate to strong, backing to northeast, then freshening and increasing strong to gale. Seas rough and increasing on the east coast, particularly northward from East Cape. Local outlook: Temporarily fine, followed by overcast conditions and heavy rain. Cold temperatures, becoming milder. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.35 in. Midnight, Thursday .. .. 23.85 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 66d0g.; Minimum, 47dog. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—The cyclone which crossed the Dominion yesterday moved rapidly eastwards and an intense anti-cyclone advanced on to southern New Zealand. Indications are for southerly winds, strong to gale force, north of Greymouth and Akaroa, but soon moderating, elsewhere light to moderate. Seas heavy in Cook Strait area, moderate south of Farewell Spit, elsewhere rough, later decreasing. Moderate to fresh southerly to easterly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, with smooth to moderato seas. The weather will bo fair to fine in western districts from Taranaki southwards and in tho southern half of the South Island. Elsewhere changeable and squally with passing showers, but conditions improving soon. Cold temperatures with some frosts in the South Island. RAINFALL RECORD.
