GOOD BASKETS OBTAINED

TAUPO, Saturday

The weather conditions for the past week and through the Easter holidays have been in favour of fishermen, and some good catches have been recorded. Early and late fishing was the most successful. Launch and trolling parties met with very fair success, and all the fish taken were in very good condition.

Fishing in the Tongariro two anglers landed 10 and 11 fish each from the Ilut and Log Pools. Other anglers did well. There has been heavy rain in the back country, bill the river is fishable, although slightly discoloured. Motutere and Jellico Points have been well fished during the holidays, and some very good fish have been taken, both on the" fly and spoon. The most successful time was between 7 p.m. and midnight. There are very few fish in the Ilatcpe River, but somo very good specimens have been taken at the outlet. Two rods took eight fish one evening, the largest being Bilb. and the average 61b. A number of rods have been fishing the Waitahanui river arid outlet. Not many fish have been taken in tlio river, but good ones have been taken at the outlet, the early mornings ami late evenings giving the best fishing. One angler look five fish averaging 61b. between 4.30 a.m. and 5.15 a.m. on April 7. Four rods in three days took 40 fish in excellent condition Most of these were taken during the late evenings. Another angler took the limit, and others took seven or eight 'Ywo rods fishing at ltangitira Point took eight fish, averaging 61b., on the fly. The largest weighed 7|lb. The 3 and 4.mile Bays are not fishing as well as in the previous week, but some very nice fish have been taken in the past few (lavs. • . The launches were not quite as nusy ns one would expect during the Easter holidays. AH parties were quite satisfied with their catches. A party camped fit Mine Point took i 34 fish in four days. Another party of two rods in the same time landed 52 fish, at Waihora. the largest was 931b and (he average over 61b. . Half a dozen dry fly rods ran be counted nightly, and all are enjoying good sport Four rods took 26 fish on the evening of April 8, another catch being .18 for three rods. -
