BOOKMAKING ADMITTED.
OFFENCE BY QUARRYMAN. "SMALL WAY OF BUSINESS." " This man is in a very small way of business," said Detective-Sergeant Kelly, when Arthur Harold King, aged 32, quarryman, was charged in the Police Court yesterday with carrying on the business of a bookmaker in Auckland on March 31. King admitted the offence. The detective-sergeanfc added that accused had been taking only shilling bets. He had entered a bet with a Hindu and had failed to pay him when the latter won. "Does he work at anything else?" asked the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt. Accused: 1 work in a quarry. In reply to further questions, Mr. Kelly said accused had a double-chart in his possession when ho was arrested. He had not been previously convicted. King was fined £5, in default ono month's imprisonment. Ho was allowed 24 hours in which to make payment.
