GUN-RUNNING CAREER.
FRENCH CAPTAIN KETTLE. A, HOLIDAY IN PARIS. PARIS, April 1. Captain Henri do Monfried, known as the French Captain Kettle, is on holiday in Paris from the Red Sea, where he has spent 30 years in dafiance of authority. Ho was twice imprisoned in a British military gaol, and was also arrested by his compatriots. Tho captain is a lithe, bronzed, eagleeyed man with a steel-grey moustache, a typical exponent of his own theory that gun-running is a "free-for-all" game. He is also interested in the hashish trade.
Once Captain de Monfried attempted to annex tho Farsan Islands for France, but failed because ho was not supported. He possessed large coffeo and grain estates in Abyssinia. Ho is visiting Paris in order to place his children at school, but says ho stifles here and intends to depart for Djibouti immediately.
