Krenz, United States, 1929. , , . , "Snooker," Newton, forwards the following inquiry:—Will you please give me your ruling of the following stroke in snooker ? The striker is on a ,red ball, which he pots. The cue ball, that is, the white) after potting the red, runs along the table and pots the pink. Docs the striker take one for po\ting the red and give six away for potting pink, or does he forfeit the one for the red ball also ? The striker forfeits six points to his opponent and does not count one for potting the red. The rule states that the minimum penalty for potting two balls, other than reds, with the one stroke is four points. F.M., Mangateparu enquires;—(a) What were Robert Fiztsimmons' physical measurements and weight when he won the world's championship, and can you tell me what his famous "shift" was? (b) Of the fourteen players selected to represent New Zealand on this tour, eight went to England on the previous tour and there are six new players. There does not appear to be an official record of his other measurements. His famous " shift" was that he worked in close to an opponent, drawing the latter's left lead which he dodged, at the same time moving his left foot further forward toward his opponent and driving his right hard to the solar plexus. Sports, Fllerslie, asks: —Would you kindly supply me with the following information for the purpose of settling an argument? (1) The tonnage of the following first-class yachts in the harbour: The Viking, Thelma, Queonie, Ariki, also the old Volunteer, Rainbow and Meteor. (2) Who has captained the Australian elevens in Fngland since Goo. Giffen until last year's team ?—(1) The registered tonnage of Viking is 30; Thelma, 19.73; Ariki, 15.99 and Rainbow, 10.28. Queenie is a class C yacht (3rd class), and her registered tonnage is 4 tons. Meteor was built in Auckland but is owned in Sydney, and she is a yacht of 8 tons register. The old yacht Volunteer, 40 tons, was wrecked at the islands over 19 years ago. (2) George Giffen never captained an Australian side in England, where ho toured with the 1893 and 1896 teams, captained respectively by J. M. Blackliam and G. H. S. Trott. The captains since then have been J. Darling, 1899, 1902, 1905; M. A. Noble, 1909; S. E. Gregory, 1912; W. W. Armstrong, 1921; 11. L. Collins, 1926; W. M. Woodfull, 1930.—Athletic Editor.
