MOUNT ROSKILL AFFAIRS.
Sir, —It was u great disappointment to the struggling farmers of the southern part of Mount lvoskill district to find that the ward system proposed by Mr. Sanft was turned down at the board's last meeting. We were very surprised at Mr. Tansloy voting against the proposal. -As for sending in representatives from here, it is well known to Mr. Tansley that they have not an earthly chance of being elected, as they receive absolutely no support from the thickly-popu-lated part of the district. Time and again they have had the humiliating experience of being at the foot of the poll, and many willing to do their part know it is useless to try for a place on the board. Since the unimproved rating was adopted scores of small farmers have had their rates trebled. Is it any wonder that, as the chairman states, there is still 33 per cent, unpaid ? Next year it will be a miracle if 40 per cent, is paid. Our roads have long been noted for their disgraceful condition, and only within the past few weeks have a few clay footpaths been formed, thanks to the relief workers. J. Patterson. White Swan Road, Mt. Roskill.
