The King is suffering from a slight cold. His Majesty carried out his official business this morning, but will keep to his room for a day or two. A memorial service to the lato Lord Stamfordham, formerly tho King s private secretary, was held at Windsor Castle today, but His Majesty was not ablo to attend it. SIR CLIVE WIGRAM. KING'S PRIVATE SECRETARY. APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED. (Received April G, 10.J55 p.m.) LONDON, April 5. Colonel Sir Clive Wigram, assistant private secretary to tho King, has been appointed private secretary to Ilis Majesty in succession to the late Lord Stamfordham.
Colonel Sir Clivo AVigram tins been assistant private secretary and equerry to the King since 1910. Ife was born in 1873, a son of the late Mr. Herbert Wigram, of the Madras Civil Service. Ho was mairied in 1912 to Nora, eldest daughter of Colonel Sir Neville Chamberlain. Educated at Winchester, Sir Clive held his first commission in the Royal Artillery, 1893. Ho was aide-de-camp to Lord Elgin, who was Viceroy of India in 1895. Ho exchanged to the 18th Lancers, Indian Army, 1897; served on the northwest frontier of India, 1897-98; was aide-de-camp to Lord Curzon when the latter was Viceroy of India, 1899-1904; served in South Africa: and was assistant to the Chief of Staff, India, 1905-6. He retired from tho army in 1923 and was knighted in 1928.
