OBITUARY.

MRS. KATHERINE TYNAN. (Received April 5. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 4. The death has occurred of Mrs. Ivathcrino Tynan (Hinkson), novelist and verse writer. The late Mrs. Katherino Tynan (Hinkson/ was born at Clondalkin, County Dublin, m 1868, and was educated at the Sienna Convent, Drogheda, She began writing at the ago of 17, and published her first volume of verse, " Louise do la Valliero," in 1885. Her first proso work, " Shamrocks," was published in 1887, and since that date she had been a most prolific writer of novels and poems. Her famo rests chiefly upon her novels for girls, which have been characterised by their refinement and polish. Among her most recent publications arc " Haroun of London," " The House in tho Forest," " The Rich Man," and " A Fino Gentleman." She married in 1893 Mr. U. A. Hinkson, who predeceased her in 1919. Mrs. Hinkson leaves two sons and a daughter.
