CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING.
AUCKLAND GUN CLUB. Members of the Auckland Gun Club held their annual picnic at the club grounds, Pakuranga. A number of clay bird matches were sho.t off for trophies presented by Messrs. J. M. Wilson and J. S. Reid. The first 10 birds match was divided by C. E. Hodgo (18yds), L. F. Ramsey (16yds), F. Curtis (16yds), E. N. Barratt (16yd3), W. E. Grant (15yds), and J. Milne (12yds). with tho possible. Tho second 10 birds match was divided by C. E. Hodge (19yds). and L. Peterson (16yds), with tho possible, A 15 birds match for silver entree dishes resulted in C. E. Hodgo (19jds), F. Curtis (17yds), and M. Delich (12yds), getting tho possible. They divided the stakes and shot oS for the trophy. Delich missed the 17th bird, Curtis the 24th, Hodge getting his bird and winning. Tho ladies' nomination match of 15 birds produced another great finish. C. E. Hodgo (20yds), A. E. Macredie (ISyds), L. F. Ramsey (17yds), W. E. Grant (16yds), L. Peterson (16yds), W. H. Hazard (16yds). and J. Milno 13yds), nil getting the possible. They shot oft for the trophy, Ramsey missed the 18th bird, Macredie and Peterson the 19th, Hodge the 21st, Millie the 30th and Hazard the J>4th. Grant got bird and won for Miss Vera Grnnt. The final 15 birds match for a silver teaset and tray resulted in a tie between W. E. Grant (16yds), W. H. Hazard (l'iyds), and G. Peach (15yds), with the possible. They shot olf, Hazard missing the lath bird and Grant the 27th. Peach got his bird and won.
Tho silver cup for tho aggregate of the three trophy matches resulted in a tie I etween C. E. Hodge and W. H. Hazard with 44 out of 45. They shot off, Hodge winning on the fourth round. Hazard shot off for three trophies, but failed to win one. R. H. Bartley lost ono bird only iu each match. The leading grand aggregates were:—C. Hodgo 68 out of 69; W. E. Grant, 70—71: W. H. Hazard, 65—69; F. Curtis, 62—05: J. Milne, 62—65; L. F. Ramsey, 61—65; G. Peach, 61—69; R. 11. Bartley, 60— 65; I. Lomas, 60—65; L. Peterson, 59—65; E. N. Barratt, 57—65; A. E. Macredie, 50— 55; D. S. Ewiug, 48—55. METROPOLITAN CLUB EVENTS. Tho Metropolitan Gun Club held its usual shoot on its grounds at Mangere on Saturday. Owing to other attractions the attendance was not so good as usual, and a strong south-westerly wind made good shooting difficult. Nevertheless some good shooting was witnessed. The results were:— No. 1 7-bird Sweepstake.—L. Peterson (16yds), 7. 1; I. Lomas (13yds), H. Wright (14yds), C. A. Whitney (11yds), 6 each, equal, 2. No. 2, 15-bird Match, for a trophy donated by Master Peter Bartley.—L. F. Ramsey (18yds), G. 11. Brown (18yds), and H. Wright (14yds)-, shot 14 each and divided I the stake. In tho shoot-off Ramsay won on the 20th bird. No. 3, 10-bird Sweepstake.—L. Peterson (17yds) and 11. Wright (15yds), both shot the possible and divided the stake. No. 4. 7-bird Sweepstake, first miss out.— J. Gribble (12yds), L. Peterson (17yds) and L. F. Ramsey (20yds) each shot the possible. In the shoot-off Ramsey missed the ninth bird, Gribble the fourteenth, Peterson getting his bird and winning. The next shoot will bo held on Saturday week, WAIHI CLUB'S EVENT. Li-ROM our. own correspondent. ] WAIHI, Saturday. The Waihi Gun Club held its opening shoot for the season on Good Friday, when there wero some very creditable performances. Results:— Sweepstake, 5 birds.—E. King, C. Naylor, G. Worth and 11. Thoinaa tied, with the possible, and divided. Open Handicap, of £lO, 15 birds.—E. King and C. Naylor tied, with (lie possible, and divided first and second money. G. Shaw (Thames), with 13 birds, look third money. Quail Drive Sweepstake, 5 birds.—G. Shaw and IT. Thomas tied, with the possible, and divided. Ellerington Cup. for B Class shots, 10 birds.—E. Shergold and ,T. MncDonald tied, Shergold winning the shoot-off on the 15th bird. Novice Trophy Shoot, 7 birds.—E. Shergold, W. Osborne and W. Canary tied, Osborne winning in tho shoot-off on the 13th bird.
