EVENTS AT MASTERTON.

HIGH STANDARD OF FLYING

Ideal weather prevailed for tho official North Island air pageant, which was held yesterday at Masterton. About 70 pilots and more than 30 machines took part. The flying was of a high standard.

The New Zealand Government's Grebe suffered slight damago when it was landing after a demonstration, the tail skid being broken and tho rwlder damaged. A mishap in the New Zealand Herald Cup race marred this event. The official opening of the Hood aerodrome took place during the afternoon. The results were as follows:

Landing Competition for unendorsed A pilots.—S. T. Hudson (Otago), 1 ; R. O. Brown (Hawke's Bay), 2; 11. Gardiner (Wellington), 3. Mewbigin Cup.—Flight-Lieutenant Buckley, 1; Flying-Officer Olson (Otago), 2; Captain Stedman, 3. New Zealand Herald Cup.—C. M. Duthio (Wellington), 1; A. V. Jury (Wairarapa) 2. Landing, B pilots.—F. McDonald (Wellington), 1; Squadron-Leader Findlay, 2; Flight-Lieutenant Buckley, 3.

Aerobatic Competition.—Flight-Lieu ten ant D. M. Allan (Auckland).

FOUR MACHINES RETURN.

AUCKLAND CLUB'S SUCCESSES.

Four of the five machines belonging to the Auckland Aero Club which mado a flight to Masterton on Friday to take part in tho pageant there returned to Auckland yesterday afternoon after an uneventful trip of four and a-quartcr hours. The fifth machine, which was slightly damaged when it made a forced landing following a collision during the final of tho race for tho New Zealand Herald Cup, has been dismantled and will bo sent back by rail to-day. Tho pilot, Mr. P. C. Lewis, who was practically unhurt, and Mr. R. J. Copley, ground engineer to tho club, remained in Masterton with tho machine and will also return by train. Commenting on the Auckland Club's successes, Mr. E. R. Boucher, the club captain, said last evening that FlightLieutenant D. M. Allan, tho club instructor, had more than held his own against other experienced flyers, 110 had gained highest points at the display, being first in the aevobatics competition and tho bombing the "baby" event.
