SKID ON LOOSE METAL.

CAR HITS TELEGRAPH POLE.

WELL-KNOWN OAMARU RESIDENT

[BY TELEGRAPH. —rRESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, Wednesday.

Two men were killed this morning when a car which was coming to Dunedin from Pembroke apparently skidded in some loose metal at Clarendon, near Milton, and ran across the road into a telegraph pole.

Details ol the dead are:— . f John Fraser, married, manager at Oamaru for Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited. William Cooper, married, taxi proprietor of Mosgiel.

There were two others in the car, Messrs. Charles Harry Leith and Cecil Hazlett, and both escaped injury. ' The car was being driven by Mr. Leith at the time of the accident. Mr. John Fraser was one of the bestknown residents of North Otago. He did yeoman service during the war in collecting patriotic funds, and as manager for 22 years of tho Oamaru branch of Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, gained the esteem and respect of all. He was a member of tho Oamaru Borough Council, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the North Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and was connected with many sports bodies. Mr. Fraser married a well-known singer, Madame Winnio Fraser, who, with their two young children, survive him.
