REDUCTION IN WAGES.
Sir,—With regard to the meeting heW on Monday evening by two of the sec-| tioiis of civil servants, viz., the railways and the post and telegraph, the general public must not assume that the majority of civil servants in the other branches ol' Government service are necessarily in agreement with the protest made at that meeting. Although no one, either in or out of the civil service, likes to have a, cut made in his salary, yet very many of us recognise the fact that while everyone else is .suffering severely during the present depression we must be prepared to bear our fair share also of the burden of extra taxation in whatever form it may be applied, whether in the shape of a 10 per cent, cut or otherwise. In any case as it is a matter of either a reduction in salary or of retrenchment, naturally wo prefer the former. Civil Servant.
