FATAL FALL IN LIFT.
DEATH OF WOMAN PATIENT.
CORONER'S RECOMMENDATION,
[BY JFXEGHAt'H. —FIBERS ASSOCIATION.] CH.RISTCHUECH. WpcWudny.
At the inquest concerning the death of Sydney Smith, the coroner returned a verdict that death was caused by haemorrhage in the brain and shock, caused by an accidental fall out of a lift at St. Georgia's Hospital.
The accident was due to an unforeseen looseness in the gate lock attached to the. outer lift gate at the first, floor, which prevented the cut-ouL from coming into operation.
"It/would appear," the coroner said, •"that it would bo desirable to give consideration to the omission of floating floors in lifts used for the transit of beds, and tho substitution of cut-outs, operating on %ho innor doors.V
