XDRATORIAN IMPRESSES.

[DY TELEGRAPH.— -PHESB ASSOCIATION.] -WELLINGTON, Tuesday.

Tho weather was fino and tho tracks in good order at 'J'rentbam this morning. The plough was used by the ojder horses, nnd the straight half-mile of tho course propor by most of the two-year-olds.

Malayan and Tea Queen did six furlongs easily in 1.19 3-5.

Open CheQuo, Normandy and Hunting Call did pace work only. The last-named is very fit.

Ephialtes, who has improved a lot lately in appearance, sprinted half a mile in 49 4-ss. J. M. Pino will ride him on Saturday.

Rothen was much too good for Wee Lackie over fivo furlongs run in 1.1 3-5, the last half taking 50 2-ss. Lady Pam„ accompanied by Spear Lad for five furlongs, and Fainvind the rest of the way, galloped nine furlongs from the mile peg attractively. Tho first half-mile took 53 l-ss, tho half to tho winning post 51b, and tho furlong beyond under 13s, making 1.57 for it© full distance.

Historio and Zephyrus did tho last halfmile of sis furlongs in 50 2-ss. Historio is an unlikely starter in the Thompson Handicap, unless the weather i 8 wet. It is also uncertain whether Zephyrua will raco in the St. Leger. Eminent and Lineage did pace work only S. Gerrand rides the former, and A. Eastwood tho latter.

Pewa was responsible for an attraotive St. Leger trial in beating tho Thompson Handicap candidate Pakitere decisively ovor a mile in 1.44, tho first half taking 50 l-ss, and the last 53 4-ss.

Joie do Val again surprised by reeling of! seven furlongs in 1.30 1-5, thq last half-mile taking 52 3-ss. This maiden full-sister to tho useful Degago is now to bo tried over a distance.

Patj's Boy, after a slow beginning, drew away from Trader Horn over the closing stages of fivo furlongs in 1.5 1-5, the last half-mile taking 51 1-53. Toxeuma, looking well, sprinted six furlongs alone in 1.17 1-5, taking 51 l-5s for tho last half-mile. Tobacco Land, alone, dashed over six furlongs in 1.16 2-5, the last four furlongs taking 51 2-53.

Martian Chief did half a mil© nicely in 51 3-ss.

The first of the two-year-olds to work were Thermopylae, Foghorn and White Squall, who did pace work only. Cape Gold, going easily, beat Movietone over fivo furlongs in 1.4, the last four furlongs in 60 3-ss.

The other youngsters all galloped on the course proper along the outside rail. Salt Spray beat Invite and Moab Queen over half a mile in 50 2-ss. Salt Spray is beginning to show promise. Formacis, with something in hand, led Prefect and Ninewehi (Toxeuma's halfsister) at tho end of half a mile run in 60s.

Oratorian finished clear of Curio at the closo of a similar task in 49 2-sa, His effort was the most pleasing registered by any of the youngsters. Waratah and Lavington made a better return in 48 4-ss, but they jumped off somo distance in front of the mark.

After breakfast Hymgreat gave a satisfactory exhibition over the schooling hurdles.

NOTES FKOM TE EAPA.

PAEROA HORSES AT WORK. PAGANELLI FOR WELLINGTON. [FROM OUR OWN COJITIESFON DENT. ] HAMILTON, Tuesday. Ideal weather prevailed for training work at Te Rapa this morning. The course proper was fast, but tho trestles were out about 35ft. Tradesman ran right away from Homelight in the latter stages of a fivo furlongs gallop, which he did in 1.4 1-5. Tho first three furlongs, when Tradesman was kept back to his companion, occupied 365. Tradesman will contest the open sprint races at Paeroa, and, although the company might bo rather too 6elect for him as yet, ho can be depended xipon to make a respectable showing. Paganelli Teeled off four furlongs on the course proper in 50s. The eprinter is looking in great order and promises to run a good race in the Thompson Handicap at Wellington. Ho will bo railed eouth this evening.

Star Comet, Pompeius and First Lap were sent together over a. circuit' on the plough, running tho first six furlongs in 1.18. First Lap then dropped right back from her companions, who completed the circuit, two chains short of nine furlongs, in 1.551..

Star Comet's display was very satisfactory and it would seem that the iumoer is regaining some of his old form. He will be a starter in the hurdle events at the Paeroa meeting.

First Lap's effort was not particularly encouraging and sho should be capable of doing considerably better. On her running the second day at Te Aroha, when sho finished fourth after getting away badly, she should havo more than a passing chance at Paeroa.

Cruachan gave a pleasing display of jumping along the back of tho course. With the experience of his initial raco over battens at Te Aroha. ho should bo a dangerouß candidate in jumping events at the Paeroa meeting. •

Monetize, who also will start in the hurdle events at Paeroa. was schooled in company with Unoco. both performing their tasks well.

Tho following Vore on the tracks this morning, but were not sent against time:— Persham, Imamint, Hody Holm, Wiltshire, Bara3cope, Lupin Abbey, Valuation. Leasehold, L'allesro, and Wee Prince.

TAKANINI TRACK NEWS. CANDIDATES FOR SATURDAY. Tho weather was fine arid the track very fast at Tftkanini yesterday when a few gallops weru recorded on the insido grass. Eaglet (Stewart) had a length the better of Clopton (Jones) at tho end of seven furlongs in 1.27 2-5, an excellent gallop. Eaglet appears none the worse for her defeat at Pukelcohe and Clopton, although overshadowed by his companion, also went well. Bo far no rider has been secured for Eaglet in the Thompson Handicap. Envoy (Finlay) was a lenfith in front of Camp l'rinco (Hay) at tho end of six furlongs in 1.18. Although the timo was not good Envoy moved pleasingly considering that ho had a fair weight in tho saddle. Speedmint and Queen Arpa, both lightly weighted, wore on terms over half a mile, with Speedmint going slightly better at the end, in 40 1-59, & nice tfflllop. J. Gray, with Havering and Bronze Eagle, and P. E. Pope, with High Comedy and Rosshirc, loft for Trontham Inst night. All four are in splendid order and are expected to faro well on the trip. Havering is a distinct possibility in tho Thompson Handicap and tho other trio will carry solid support in their various engagements. J. T. Jamieson has not definitely decided whether ho will take Chief Jewel and Columba to Wellington, but Eaglet, Chief Joy, King March and Refresher will leave by train to-night. Clopton and Fedora will be Jamieson's only representatives #-t Paeroa.
