Major and Mrs. Wright, of England, who have been to Whangoroa for the deepsea fishing, have returned to Auckland and are staying at Arundel.

Lady Norah Jellicoe, who has been the guest of Mrs. 11. E. Vaile, of Hall, Epsom, for the past week or two, left last evening for Wellington.

Miss Enid Bell, of Wellington, who was in Auckland for the Girl Guide rally, has left for Christchurch, where she will be the guest of Mrs. John Anderson.

As a result of the concert organised by Mrs., J. W. Lowo and Madam A. Stock in Devonport last week, the earthquako relief fund will benefit by an amount exceeding £37.

Recent visitors from Auckland to Tlio Chateau include Misses Foley (4), Mr. and Mrs. Hannan, Mrs. George Wright, Mr. Shepherd, Mr. C. L. Shroff, Mr. and Mrs. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. L. Caughey, Mr. and Mrs. Bull.

To a newspaper representative in Wellington Lady Baden-Powell expressed much admiration of tho capacity of New Zealand country women —and ihe city women as well—for making happy homes. Their pioneer spirit, she thought, was very commendable.

A most enjoyable ladies' golf afternoon was spent on the Taupo golf links last week. It is hoped to raise enough money by social functions, in time, to improve the course, which at present is in need of smoothing out on the greens. Over 40 ladies attended and afternoon tea was served outside. Most of those present were playing, the coach, Mr. Marshal, helping beginners play off. A cake, given by Mrs. Newdick, was raffled to help to raise funds. It was won by Mrs. Cuslila Orr. It is planned to have these afternoons every week.

Mrs. Victor Macky gavo an interesting talk on " The Child in Poetry " tc members of the League of Penwomen on Friday. She read several poems written by great authors to show that thetrue poet does not lose his childlike spirit. Mrs. Macky spoke of the origin of nursery rhymes. They all marked some far-dis-tant event, or some thought that was prominent at the time, she said. Somo of Madame Baird's small pupils sang and danced to illustrato nursery rhymes. They finished with a graceful dance called " The Spirit of Youth." Mrs. Cluett, president of the league, presided, and thanked Mrs. M/*.cky and the other performers for the very attractive programme of tho afternoon.

The Epsom branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union held the first meeting for this year last week, Mrs. Benfell presiding. Members stood in silence as an expression of sympathy with sufferers in the Hawke's Bay disastc. To commemorate "Franchise Day" asi interesting paper on "The Life '>f Frances Willard" was»read by the president. Arrangements were made to have the union represented at the coming Dominion convention, to be held at Nelson. A pleasant feature of the afternoon was the gift of ti bouquet of flowers to Miss Lilian Edger, who returns to India shortly.

The ladies' auxiliary of the Community Sunshine Association met at Sunshine Ilouse, Mrs. Fratt presiding. There was a largo attendance of ladies, including new members. Mrs. W. S. Pratt gave an interesting account of the various activities of the association. Members were urged to continue their efforts in assisting the Napier children's camp at Motuihi, which bad proved so helpful to the destitute. Thanks were extended to all the ladies who had donated so generously and worked so strenuously during the past three weeks. It was stated that many members arc busy making forget-me-nots in readiness for Children's Day in May when it is hoped to have 30,000 ready for sale. It was agreed to endeavour to have som'o printed matter ready for distribution shortly, so that interested people out. side the association may obtain full information of the work being done. Mrs. Hobday contributed vocal solos which greatly added to the enjoyment of the afternoon, and at the conclusion of the business afternoon tea was served by tho Social Committee. '
