PEDESTRIAN KILLED.
KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR. INJURIES TO COMPANION. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] OIPOTIKI, Saturday. A fatal accident occurred on the main road, half a mile from Taneatua, lastnight, when Mr. Lanci} Foster, aged about 50, a local farmer, and Mr. J. Ferguson, also a farmer, both single men, were run into by a baby car driven by Mr. R. Mitchell, a farmer, of Otangihaku. Mr. Foster was caught j.bout the legs and thrown under the bonnet first and then through the windscreen, receiving such serious injuries tiliat he died in a few moments.
Mr. Ferguson was more fortunate and received only bruises and. a dislocated ankle. The car was damaged but the driver escaped unhurt.
The two men were on the way to their homes when tlxi accident occurred, and a doctor was immediately summoned. Both Mr. Foster and Mr. Ferguson had lived in the district for many years. Air. Foster was a son of Mr. F. F. Foster, and was farming at Pekalahi with his brother, Mr. J. H. Foster.
