DESTRUCTION OF DEER.
( Sir,—-In your issue of February 25, " Fair Comment " tries hard to bolster up an argument in favour of the Government,'*: deer destruction activities. * He is no doubt correct in stating the wages at 14s instead of 16s quoted by " Game Pointer." The rest, of " Game Pointer's " statements are quite correct. There is no tally kept, and I defy "Fair Comment" to produce proof to the contrary, up to February 20, 1931. The shooters will tell you the hides go bad and they bury them; they may bring in odd ones. Does " Fair Comment" call that keeping a tally? He asks: "Would anyone like to stay out there for less?" Do not dozens of us go -out every year and provide our own ammunition? I say.it is a deliberate waste of money. Why'does the Government not nialie it an open season all the year round for everyone ? The deer would'soon be checked. Sportsman.
