DOUBLE TRAGEDY REPORTED.

DEATH OF TWO INDIANS?

[FROM oun OWN COIIRKSrONDENT.] SUVA. Feb. 9.

The police received a telegram to-day from Ba, to tho effect that a Punjabco named Mela Singh, and an Indian woman, called Imaman, had been murdered at a sugar settlement named Tagi Tagi, midway between Ba and Tavua, on Sunday night. The husband of the woman, also a Punjabee, named Badliaw.i Singh, has been arrosted. No details have been received.

Suva seems determined to let no amusement escape it. Here we have clubs for cricket, football, tennis, swimming, golf, bowling, rifle shooting and gun shooting at clay pigeons, and at last, polo, although ponies are hard to get. Women have joined iu some of these pastimes and have an established miniature rifle club. Now they have foimed a bowling cluli, which was formally opened by Lady Flefehei. The members hope to challenge overseas women bowlers when the carnival coines round in July. In the Legislative Council, Major Willoughby Tottenham, .1 coconut planter, and a representative of a coconut-growing country, moved that some system of agricultural credits be initiated by the Government. Ho said that the plight of the coconut planters, owing to the drought and the low price of copra, was very bad. He suggested a board of control, which could grarifc ciedit to planters on reasonable security. The Director of Agriculture opposed the motion, which was withdrawn.
