EVENTS FOR SPORTSMAN CUP.

The annual competition for tho Sportsman's Cup was commenced, under tho control of tho Auckland Amateur Athletic Club, at tho Domain last evening. The heats and final of the 220 yds, tho heats of tho 100 yds and the half-mile were run off, while tho final of tho 100 yds, tho 440 yds and ono milo will bo held to-morrow. . Elliott won his hent of the 100 yds in 10 1-lOa and did 22 l-5s to run third in the final of the 220 yds. 11. C. Garlick won this event brilliantly of! Byds in 21 4-ss. H. McNiel won the 880 yds in !m 59 l-ss. Following aro the results:— IOOYds. Handicap.—First heat: A. J. Elliot, scr, J; J. Tipping, 10yds, 2; H. Hoffman, 7yds, 3. Time, 10 1-lOs. Second heat: G. Time. 21 4-5s "Tiarliclc ran a fine race to win easily by 2vds, while Elliot was inches behind Meredith. 880 Yds. Handicap.—H. Mc-Niel, 90yds, 1; A. Campbell, 20yds. 2: R. Eade. 10yds, 3. Time, 1m 59 l-Bs. McNiel led all the way and won by syds from Campbell. Eade again finished very fast and beat Henry on tho tnpo for third place.
