WRONG MAN CHOSEN.
OFFER TO SELL COAT. CONVICTION FOR THEFT. As a result of offering to sell to a detective a new overcoat for £2, George Allan Jorjes, labourer, aged 26, appeared in the Police Court yesterday, charged with the theft of a coat, valued at £6 30rf, the property of a large city department store.'" ..A plea of guilty was entered by Mr. "who represented accused. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said accused was a new arrival from Australia. He had accosted a detective in a city hotel and offered to sell an overcoat, but would not explain how be had come into possession of it. After his arrest he had admitted the theft. He had been convicted on similar charges in Australia, and inquiries ■were being made to see whether he was eligible for' deportation. Accused was convicted and sentenced to two months' imprisonment.
