The High Commissioner for New Zealand. Sir Thomas Wilford, lias been notified from Sandrlngham that the King is sending £SOO and the Queen £250 to tha sufferers by the Hawke's Bay disaster. In an address at a combined church service, held in the open air at Napier yesterday morning, the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloo, said : "Ever since the disaster I have been receiving anxious inquiries from His Majesty. I can assure you that you today are prominently in tho thoughts and prayers of His Majesty and of others, not Only in England, but, indeed, throughout the world. I shall bo able to tell His Majesty of the deeds of heroism that have been performed, and of the bravery and fortitudo with which you havo faced disaster."

The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, has been advised that the King has 10ceived tho following telegram from tho President of Germany, Marshal von Hindcnburg:— "On the occasion of the receipt of the overwhelming news of the terrible earthquake disaster which has visited New Zealand, may I be allowed to convey to Your Majesty my most sincere condolences. I beg to assure Your Majesty that tho wholo of Germany feels the deepest sympathy in the sad fate of the victims of tho tragic disaster." His Majesty sent the following reply "1 am profoundly grateful to you, Mr. President,, for your kind message expressing your sympathy and that of the ! people of Germany with those of New Zealand in tho great sorrow and Suffering which lias been inflicted upon them by tho recent catastrophic earthquake in tho North Island. The sentiments conveyed in your message will. I am confident, be deeply appreciated throughout the Dominion, and particularly by the immediate sufferers from thu great destruction of life and property which this terrible event lias occasioned." Further telegrams of sympathy received by (ho Governor-General include messages from numerous distinguished and representative persons.

WARNINGS DISREGARDED.

There was at least ono very cool man in Napier this afternoon when further earthquakes occurred. Dr. Moore, who was .in his private hospital on the Parade recovering his personal effects by passing them out through a third storey window, worked steadily during both shakes, _ although urged ■ to come down by police'officials. This building is leaning at an nnglo of 15 degrees.
