GENERAL STRIKE.
PROPOSAL DEFEATED. OPINION AT MELBOURNE. MELBOURNE. Feb. 7. When tho Trades Hall Council met the proposal to organise for a general strike was overwhelmingly defeated. A union official for 42 years described tho Sydney Trades Hall proposal for a general strike against' tho basic wage reduction as the most ridiculous suggestion ever made in tho Labour movement in view of the circumstances.
