"DnliLfhtfnl weather favoured the Matamata Pacing Club's meeting on Saturday End thero was a large attendance, many visitors arriving by the special trains from '.Auckland and Rotorua. Tho course was in perfect order and the racing proved extremely interesting, although the results uero most unfavourable to investors.
Every favourite was beaten and no fewer than three of tho winners returned double- *' figure dividends. Two of tho others were also at good prices. Tho Matamata Hack Cup, the leading event, was won by Messrs. Roulston Pros.' Jiaviland, who outstayed tho others at the finish to win handsomely. Havilnnd was ridden in behind tho field for most of the way and ho did not have any serious difficulty in beating Protomint and Manavhenua in the run homo. Manawhenua, tho favourite, had every chance, but failed to stay quite well enough. The totalisator investments for the meeting wore £12,031, compared with £18,249 last year, a decrease of £6218.
