THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE.
MARKET CONTINUES QUIET.
Only one sale was put through in the call room on the Auckland Stock Exchange on Saturday, but three were leported during the morning. The market reflected the usual week-end lack of interest, and buyers were more than over in the minority. One sale took place in the gilt-edged section, a parcel of Auckland Jlarbour Board, 1939, 5i per cent, debentures changing hands at £95 10s, compared with tho last salo on December 5, at £95 ss. Little interest was taken in the bank ing group. Australians of Commerce were sought on slightly lower levels. The market for Commercials of Australia was practically unchanged. Nationals of New Zealand were dealt in at a drop of 1« on the last sale earlier in the week. Sellers of both New South Wales and New Zealands failed to draw buyers. Insurance were weak and depressed, sellers on the lower levels, which followed the Napier disaster, failing to draw a buying quotation. The market for Goldsbrough-Morts was a shade weaker with buyers down to 16s 4d. Taupiri preference shares had their first sale since the first week in August at a fall of Is 6d, a sale taking place late the previous afternoon at 21s 3d. No sellers appeared for Auckland Gas. Buyers of New Zealand Breweries dropped back to 31s 3d, compared with 31s 6d the previous clay. In the miscellaneous group offers for Colonial Sugars were easier at £29 ss. New Zealand Refrigerating contributing gained 3d in the last Auckland sale three days before, to sell at Is 6d. King Solomons were decidedly easier with buyers down to Is 9d, compared with the last sale at 2s 6d. Waihis gained 3d qn the market two days before to change hands at 15s 3d. CLOSING QUOTATIONS.

Butter totalling 240 tons 6cwt. was marie by tho Kaipara Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, in January, against 255 tons lOcwt. in January last year. The season's production tip to January 31 was 1357 tons, compared with 1348 tons to the same date Inafc season. Butter-fat. is being paid for at 9J>d per lb. for finest for January, against Is 2£d P a 'd last year. Payments "for the season to dale total £102,059, against £164,457 last year.
