RUNNERS SUSPENDED.
SENSATION IN ENGLAND. BREACH OF AMATEUR RULES. (Received February 8, 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 8. There is a sensation in athletic circles. Three prominent long-distance runners, J. 13. Webster, four times British crosscountry champion, formerly four and 10 miles' champion, who competed in the Pans Olympiad; F. Light, who competed at tho Amsterdam Olympiad, and J. W. Benson, have been declared by tho Amateur Athletic Association ineligible to compete in amateur meetings, owing to their journeying to meetings by means of a " fund" arranged by tho secretary of the Birchfield Harriers, which is a form of expenses which the association does not permit. Tho Birchfield Harriers Club, whoso team has repeatedly won tho cross-coun-try championship, has been suspended for a fortnight. Webster and Light to-day, before this decision was known, assisted Staffordshire to win tho county cross-country championship.
