ENNOBLING OUR HUSBANDS.
Mrs. Sidney Webb still declines to bo known as Lady Passfield, though her husband has had to accept a peerage in order to serve the Labour Government. Other women are asking why it is that a wife is accorded an honorary title when her husband is ennobled. The creation of the title Dame for prominent women somehow does not seem to have been as popular as one would have expected. In any case, though many married ladies have received the title, their husbands have not adopted the rank of knighthood—nor would they be allowed to do so, ( remarks the writer. One wonders if the wives of wealthy newly-rich men were not allowed to share in the titles conferred upon their husbands, there would bo just as much placeseeking as there is to-day ? It is a delicate subject.
