HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

FINE AND BRIGHT. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening An area of high barometric pressure is now located over the Dominion, the recent westerly depression having passed eastward. Fair to fine weather is expected in most districts, with warmer temperatures. Variable and moderate breezes, southerlies prevailing and giving place to freshening easterly winds. Seas smooth to moderate. Local outlook: Fine and bright. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30,001(1, Midnight, Wednesday .. 29.90 in, Temperatures in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 76deg.; Minimum, 59deg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —A moderate anticyclone is now located over the Dominion and a fresh depression i 3 advancr ing across the south Tasman Sea. .An intense tropical cyclone centred off the Queensland coast is now apparently moving south eastwards. Indications are for moderate southerly winds, veering to west and north-west in and south of Cook Strait and later freshening. Seas rather rough between Akaroa and East Cape, but moderating; elsewhere smooth to moderate. Variable winds in the eastern Tasman, later tending northerly and freshening in the southern portion; seas moderate. Weather fair to fine gener-' ally; later some showers south of Westland and about Foveaux Strait. Cold night, but warmer to-morrow. RAINFALL RECORD.
