HOSPITAL NURSES.
Sir,—lt is to bo<£hoped a very strong and energetic protest will be made against, any attempt to reduce tho salaries of hospital nurses. This large, body of devoted women are numbered among the most lowly-paid in our fair Dominion! Being at present an in-patient of a public hospital, I cannot claim to be entirely perhaps I am in the best position to appreciate the untiring efforts of these highly efficient women, who toil so unceasingly that suffering mankind may benefit. Whatever national economies are practised, the nurses should be left alone. They are grossly underpaid now. 11. F. Ivirk.
Sir, —As a visitor to the Auckland Hospital of 61 years standing, may I be permitted to put in a plea for the nurses. They are poorly paid at present, according to the work they do. They are a noble body of women and girls, and deserve to be well paid. Is there no other way of reducing tho expenses of hospitals but at the expense of these nurses ? Tim Oldest Visitor Alive.
