SECOND AUCKLAND SALE. "PROMPT DATE " FIXED. " Prompt date" for the second Auckland wool sale of the 1930-31 season has been fixed for Saturday, January 31. It is too early yet to estimate the amount of the total pay-out, as sales of the passcd-in lots arc still being made.

CARLTON BREWERIES. LOWER PROFIT LAST YEAR. The accounts of Carlton and United Breweries, Ltd., Melbourne, for the year ended Juno 30 last, reflect the depressed trading conditions. 'lho net profit was £334,895, compared with £425,173 iri 1928-29. The distributions to shareholders were on a, reduced scale. Preference shareholders received £30,000, compared with £35,000 paid in the previous year, whilo tho year's dividend on ordinary capital absorbed £262,500, compared with £306.250 for the previous year. The distribution to vendor companies was £2500, and the balanco of £29,895 was added to the reserve fund. BIRKENHEAD GAS. NET PROFIT OF £1309. A net profit of £1309 is shown in the annual report and balance-sheet of the Birkenhead and Northcote Gas <'o., Ltd., for the year ended October 31, 1930. Iho sum of'£2B2o was brought forward from 1929, making £4129 available for distribution. A dividend of 5 per cent, was paid on the, ordinary shares, and the usual 3 per cent, on the preference shares. WELLINGTON GAS GO. PROFITS SLIGHTLY LOWER. The, 61st annual report and balancesheet. of tlxo Wellington Gas Company, Limited, shows that the net profit on the year's operations decreased by £5105 to £56,634 lis 3d, but against this there is all increase in the supplementary re* venuc of .C4OBI 13s. Last, voar the accounts showed only "interest received at £1772 10s, whereas in the current balance-sheet "interest and* rents" are shown at, £5854 3s 10d, making the total profit for the vear just ended £62,489. as against £63,512 in 1929.
