MADE BY THE QUEEN.
A NUMBER OF ARTICLES. Those who visit the Imperial Institute will see an imposing number of articles—--5500 in all, of which the Queen has sent 1382 and Princess Mary 3050—made by members of the London Needlework Guild.. Twenty-four of her now famous cot covers have been crocheted by the Queen, eight in white, eight in pale pink and eight in pale blue, and this year Her Majesty has been using a new stitch instead of the " shell " pattern, the " spider " pattern. Iwo other workers of the Royal Family are Princess Mary, who has found time to knit four smart jumpers in plain and purl for some lucky women, and little Lord Lascelles, her elder son, who lias sent his first contribution, a knitted scarf in cheerful crimson wool, states the writer. Princess Mary, in spite of her heavy round of social engagements this summer, duplicated by the absence from public life of the Duchess of York, is as energetic a knitter and needlewoman as the Queen. Her own special idea are maternity bags, dainty cretonne bags in which are packed a complete outfit for the mother and newborn baby. Princess Mary herself chooses the cretonne for the covers, and the garments are made for her by members of her households at Chesterfield llouso and Harewood House who organise sewing " bees."^ There aje also babies' trousseaux in cretonne bags of a different, colour among the pile of contributions from the Princess. These contain practical outfits for the young baby chosen by Princess Mary, who has always been in favour of simple garments for her own two boys.
