POWER SHORTAGE OVER.
RAIN AT NEW PLYMOUTH. SERVICES NOW NORMAL. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday. The electric-power shortage in Taranaki, and particularly in New Plymouth, has been relieved by copious rains throughout the province, and all the services are now running normally. The rain also had the effect of melting the snow on Mount Egmont. A rainfall of .79in. occurred in New Plymouth yesterday and this morning there was a further heavy shower, giving a total of ,82in. for 24 hours. This is a heavier fall than any in December and is two-thirds of the total fall in December. As a result the level of the water in the rivers has been greatly increased and supplies of water for power purposes have been replenished.
