Cheers broke out as the principals made their final how, and coloured, streamers were thrown oil to the stage,. The applause continued for several min-, utes. Mr. Leslie Holland, who described himself as the "father" of the company, and. the other players as his "diildien," tycrj. pressed the gratitude of the company for. the warmth of the reception.. The success of the tour, lie said, proved that tlie public had not entirely, forsaken legitimate opera and drama, and lie believed that its a result far more shows would be sect at (he legitimate theatre than had coino to New Zealand latterly. . In response to insistent demands from the audience, brief speeches were also made by Mr. Jim Gerald, Mr. Sidney Bmchnll, M ; ss llomohi Hansen and Miss Amy liochelle. ' ! The company's tour through New Zealand, now ended, has - been "the most successful from the financial standpoint of. : any theatrical tour since "'Rose Marie" put up a record three years ago. In addition to revivals of "The Belle o'( York," performances were given of the musical' play "New Moon."
